A couple of weeks ago, a trailer for a game called “Hatred” was released. A wave of discussions regarding violence in video games followed its release, and we saw a perfect opening to talk about “First Person Lover”.
The extreme contrast between the games provided a great angle. Hate versus love…opposites are always interesting!
And this leads us straight into the when:
In the announcement trailer for First Person Lover, one of the playable characters in the game stops the character from Hatred by throwing a Valentine’s teddy bear grenade. The character drops his weapons and becomes nude, while cracking a big loving grin!
We knew that we had to act fast, but this was very worrying for the team. How would we make time for the making of the trailer and still make the deadline for the launch of the actual game? You could safely call this issue quite a big “feature creep” in our backlog…! So, quickly realized that I would have to solve this without interrupting the dev team too much.
This takes us to the last stop, the how:
With the help of some fantastic colleagues in the business, we managed to involve our friends at BLÄCK Studios - http://www.blackstudios.se
We sketched some storyboards, filmed ourselves for reference, used the voice of one of our team members as the voice over and sent it all to the awesome people at BLÄCK and we even got some motion capture help from Imagination Studios in Uppsala.
The end result was much more impressive than what we had ever hoped for. We are really happy about all the positive response that we have received so far!
“First Person Lover is the antipode of traditional first person shooter games. We want to add another dimension and show the power of love. Hopefully, this announcement trailer will also give a hint of what to expect in January when the game is released,” comments Lina Söderqvist, Marketing Director, Björn Borg.
In First Person Lover, the player fights the forces of evil with the power of love. The sports fashion brand teamed up with Isbit Games and professional e-sport player GeT_RiGhT to create the game. First Person Lover is first of its kind, free of charge and launches on January 28th 2015 at firstpersonlover.com
There’s also a developer’s blog available.
