When GLaDOS Asks You To Marry Someone, You Say Yes

Posted on Aug 23, 2011 04:03:14 PM

Gary Hudston commissioned three spectacular custom-built Portal 2 levels complete with fresh dialog from the voice of GLaDOS, Ellen Mclain, just to ask his girlfriend to marry him. After watching the glorious spectacle unfold, I’m ready to marry the guy.

Over the course of this three-level marathon of pre-marital proportions, GLaDOS manages to find a way to melt our hearts without, you know, actually melting our hearts. Sadly there’s no reaction video of Stephanie playing through the level, but I’d imagine there were happy tears shed and possibly the odd enthusiastic squeak.

Because that’s what came through on my end. Shut up.

Goddamn, Trine 2 Is Beautiful

Posted on Aug 22, 2011 04:11:11 PM

Things That Make Me Happy #2: Good 2-D action-platform games. Also, things that are beautiful — so Atlus’ upcoming Trine 2 game makes me pretty goddamn happy indeed. Every time I hear there’s a new game trailer for it, I wonder, “Could it really be as good-looking as I remember? Nah. I must be remembering it wrong or something.” And then I watch the trailer, and all I can do is try to mop the drool off my keyboard. Seriously, Konami, I would set orphans on fire for you to give these guys a chance at a Castlevania game. Or not set orphans on fire, whichever you’d prefer. Just think about it, okay?

The Baconing

Posted on Aug 19, 2011 07:24:01 PM

Deathspank will be making a triumphant return to the XBOX 360 at the end of this month, via The Baconing.

The third entry in the downloadable series of quests, laughs and mischief will be available on XBOX Live Arcade on August 31. It’s just one day later than the game’s PSN release date, as part of the PlayStation Network PLAY promotion. Unlike Bloodrayne: Betrayal, it won’t be receiving a lengthy delay because of a timed exclusivity deal or anything like that.

PC and Mac users will also be able to get in on the fun with this release, as its going to be making its rounds to their computerized platforms as well.

If you’ve played the last two games in this very popular series, then you’re surely getting ready for an epic feast. We’re very much the same and have already started getting ready for The Baconing‘s roasting later this month.

LOTR: War in the North

Posted on Aug 14, 2011 04:20:46 PM

Snowblind Studios’ action role-playing game arriving on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in three months.

Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings fantasy franchise have to wait until 2012 to get their eyes on the first part of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit. However, series fans won’t have to wait that long to play the next big Lord of the Rings video game. Today, developer Snowblind Studios announced that Lord of the Rings: War in the North will ship for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 1, 2011.

When the game arrives this fall, it will be available in a standard $60 edition, as well as a $130 collector’s iteration that comes in a large quiver case. War in the North will ship in Australia on November 2 and in Europe on November 4.

Currently in development at Snowblind Studios, Lord of the Rings: War in the North will feature “unseen lands, story elements, and characters from Middle-earth, as well as elements familiar from past feature films.” It will offer upgradeable weapons and special abilities that develop along with the game’s characters, which can be customized by players.

Is Valve Releasing a New Counter-Strike Game?

Posted on Aug 12, 2011 04:40:44 PM

Out of nowhere, there’s rumours flying around tonight that Valve is on the cusp of revealing a new game.

It’s not Episode 3, but for many, it will be the next best thing: a new Counter-Strike game.

Most of the chit-chat so far is based around testers (and eSports commentators) having very recently got some hands-on time with the rumoured project at Valve HQ. Some of them even pausing to take happy snaps of the trip.

Might and Magic Heroes VI Announces Its Announcement.

Posted on Aug 11, 2011 06:14:26 PM

I confess, I find the practice of teasing a future tease frustrating, and I’m not quite sure why the video game hype machine is so fond of this. It befuddles me. The actual “trailer” in question however, is not befuddling, but quite rousing, in an inspiring, high fantasy manner. But again. Using a tease to tease another tease. It’s a problem.

So what if I’m bitter.

Risen 2: Dark Waters

Posted on Aug 10, 2011 10:15:29 PM

If you enjoyed the first Risen, then you’ll probably love Risen 2 — the graphics are significantly more colorful and vibrant, the fighting is more organic, and the stories and factions that were in the first game are back in the second, still allowing you to do more and explore the world.

The one major change we got to see was that Pirahna Bytes has abandoned the sword-and-shield idea, and instead gone for a dual wield setup, letting you put a gun in one hand and a sword in the other. But even that isn’t really necessary — the whole point of a game like this is that you can do what you want, so if you want to just hack and slash or just shoot from a distance, that’s viable as well.

Which sounds good in theory, but in practice, Risen 2 seems to fall back down to the realities of game development. While the graphics look better, the gameplay still looks as frustrating and inaccessible as all of these other hardcore RPG titles, with various monsters assaulting you as soon as you step out into the world, and lots of complicated mechanics with not a lot of direction.

Gotham City Impostors beta sign-up now live

Posted on Aug 9, 2011 11:06:31 PM

Warner Bros. inviting gamers into September’s closed beta for upcoming Monolith-developed shooter.

When Commissioner Gordon throws up the Bat signal, he’s seeking a meeting with the Caped Crusader. Warner Bros. is issuing its own Batman sign today, seeking gamers to sign up for the upcoming closed beta for Gotham City Impostors.

Gamers can now leave their information at the closed beta sign-up page and hope they are chosen for the trial period, which will start in September. It is unclear which platforms the beta will land on; however, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms are mentioned on the beta page.

Developed by Seattle-based F.E.A.R. creator Monolith, Gotham City Impostors is “Batman with guns,” according to its developer. However, as fans know, Batman doesn’t usually wield guns. Thus, Impostors casts players as citizens of Gotham City who are inspired by either Batman or The Joker.
