Planetside 2′s Fire In The Sky

Posted on May 28, 2012 07:13:02 PM

If there’s any justice in this dark, terrible world, PlanetSide 2 will be the last action videogame we ever need. If it can do what the first game did, fix the problems and escalate it to new places… then ooh. Ooh. I do fear what the post-COD ubiquity of ranking systems and unlocks might do to it, mind. This peek at ‘massive air combat’ certainly allays worries it’ll be a small-scale territory war at least, and demonstrates that PS2 intends to use the skies far more than its proud predecessor did.

Hitman: Sniper Challenge Aiming For August Launch

Posted on May 16, 2012 10:00:29 AM

Hm, I’m not sure how to feel about this. I mean, I’m not usually a fan of pre-order bonuses – especially given how inconsequential they ultimately turn out to be relative to how frequently they’re paraded in front of us, bells jingling and doves emerging from places where doves shouldn’t be (sleeves, obviously). Also, there was a time when this would’ve been a free demo or teaser available to all. But, nowadays, those take extra time and money a lot of developers don’t have, so I suppose Hitman‘s upcoming Sniper Challenge is – at least, speculatively – justifiable.

Max Payne 3′s Launch Trailer Is A Week Early

Posted on May 15, 2012 10:00:25 AM

Maybe the launch trailer arrived before the game because Max Payne 3, like it’s titular bearded/cleanshaven renegade cop/angry vest, is currently diving toward its release date in slow motion. It really wants to be on your hard drive, honest it does, but it wants to arrive in style and preferably while shooting sixteen guns simultaneously into every other game you have installed in order to make room for itself. Whatever the case, the video should be filed under ‘portentous’ and ‘containing admirable discussions of the nature of healing and time’.

Carrot In Hell: Wrath Of The Dead Rabbit

Posted on May 10, 2012 05:25:52 PM

What’s the best game with an exclamation mark in its title? Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit has one but I’m going to stop using it now because it’s awkward and silly, which could well be an accurate description of the game itself.

Browser Game Pick: Astro Break

Posted on May 2, 2012 06:11:10 PM

Ludum Dare entry Astro Break plays like something that came straight out of an arcade cabinet. It’s a little bit like a game called Super Obliteration, which in turn was a mixture of Asteroids and Pang. Run around the edge of a tiny planet, dodging and shooting asteroids, which split in two and keep doing so until they are small enough to be destroyed. Sometimes asteroids will drop fruit, shields or power-ups.

Wrack Doesn’t Ruin Doom (Hopefully)

Posted on Apr 30, 2012 06:59:03 PM

Wrack is an indie, super-retro FPS very much in the high-speed vein of the original Doom, but pinning proper, and attractively cel-shaded, 3D graphics to those old bones. It even boasts the musical involvement of Bobby Prince, the composer of Doom, so it’s not exactly making any bones about its inspirations.
