Rogue Physicist: Freeman In Renegade Ops
Seeing that picture could have put all kinds of ideas in your head, which is why I didn’t make the headline cruelly vague. What it all actually denotes is Gordon Freeman’s rather surprising presence in the Steam version of Renegade Ops, Avalanche’s top-down, four player vehicle-based destructathon. Gordon will be driving his buggy and he’s bringing some antlions along to use in a special attack. Oh, Gordon, you’re so science. Avalanche did promise some extras for the Steam version of the game after delivering it to console-dwellers before we PC folk and it’s good of them to follow through on that promise. They’ve even given us a Gordon-specific trailer along with a release date: October 14th.
I’m presuming there will shortly be confirmation that Renegade Ops takes place in the Half Life universe.
FIFA 12 Has the Best Bugs
FIFA 12 won’t be out until later this month. Perhaps that will be enough time for EA to fix these wonderfully hilarious bugs.
The FIFA 12 demo was released on Xbox Live and for PC on Sept. 13, and it was released on the PSN on Sept. 14. The game goes on sale Sept. 27 in North America.
One Red Light: F1 2011 Launch Trailer
“Codemasters: Birmingham” really doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Eidos: Montreal” or “2K Czech” does it? But despite its inauspicious origins, their F1 2011 is looking pretty snazzy. Also, from my non-F1-caring-about perspective, massively daunting. It reminds me of when F1GP2 came out in 1734, and my tiny brain couldn’t understand why you’d play a game where touching gravel once in three hours was a game over. But that’s because I’m an idiot of the highest order. Check out the launch trailer for the game below.
It’s almost climbed out of the uncanny value and onto the other side of photo-realism. It’s freaky. I would say the only weakness is the sense of contact between the tyres and the tarmac.
Coo lummee. The game is out on the 23rd. i.e. Friday.

Gamescom 2011: SSX – Official Trailer
Check out a Gamescom premiere trailer for SSX.
EA Sports looks to still any bad vibes that have reverberated from negative reaction to the debut teaser for SSX: Deadly Descents by toning down the emphasis on “deadly.” The company has officially dropped “Deadly Descents” from the game title, Game Informer confirms, and has begun a marketing campaign that, in part, assures fans that developer EA Canada is not abandoning the series’ arcade roots in favor of more realistic gameplay in the reboot.
Trials Evolution on Trial at Gamescom, PAX
RedLynx has sent over word that its highly anticipated game Trials Evolution will make its public debut at two upcoming trade shows, where it will be playable by both public and press alike.
The first chance to play Trials Evolution before its release will be at the Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this week while next weekend the game will arrive at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle Washington, giving gamers on two continents an opportunity to preview what RedLynx says just might be “the most ambitious downloadable console title yet.”
“Ever since we teased Trials Evolution at E3, gamers have clamored for more information,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx. “But until recently, we’ve been quiet and working hard on the game.

NBA 2K12 Reveal – NBA’s Greatest
After the success of Jordan Moments last year, 2K Sports brings 15 of the NBA’s greatest players to this year’s game.
Two weeks ago when 2K Sports revealed that three of the greatest NBA players to ever take to the court would be gracing the cover of NBA 2K12, we should have figured there was more to it. Today, 2K Sports revealed a new mode coming to this year’s game titled NBA’s Greatest.
Similar to Jordan Moments from last year, NBA’s Greatest lets you play as 15 of the greatest NBA teams in history and re-create some of the best matches ever seen.
SSX: Deadly Descents
Redefining the franchise, SSX combines snowboarding with action adventure.
Deadly Descents refers to one of three key gameplay modes that EA was keen to shout about. The Deadly Descents are “all about survival gameplay” and outrunning “amazing” avalanches, rockslides and falling stalactites.
Mount & Blade: Glasgow
I’m not sure how we managed to miss this. I’m also not entirely sure that we mightn’t have been better off continuing to miss this. Gangs of Glasgow is what happens if medieval warfare sim Mount & Blade was transposed to modern Glasgow, Scotland – or at least an exaggerated version of it where the extreme football hooliganism, rioting and assorted other urban violence is worse than it already is/was. On the one hand, bringing so much – from police cars to football stadiums – into a game about dudes with swords on horses is an amazing technical achievement. On the other… well, I don’t know about you, but I’m making a face that tries to convey something I couldn’t begin to describe accurately.
It could be taken as a sort of multiplayer, team-based Postal. It could also be taken as making light of a city with a dark history of football-related violence. It could also be taken as knowingly ridiculous. Or all of the three. Here’s the official disclaimer:
“The mods are mostly comedic in nature, but deal with serious real-life social issues such as knife-crime, drug abuse, and sectarianism, usually in a ridiculous and/or offensive way.” So, hopefully you know what you’re letting yourself in for.
