Darksiders II: What Starts With War, Ends With Death

Posted on Dec 13, 2011 01:09:55 AM

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first Darksiders game, but even I’ll admit, that’s a pretty snappy tagline for its sequel.

This trailer was released over the weekend. It’s short on gameplay, but long on soft focus and dripping blood.

Darksiders 2 is out on PC, PS3 and 360 sometime in 2012.

Alan Wake returns in American Nightmare

Posted on Dec 12, 2011 02:11:37 AM

Remedy crafting new survival horror action adventure seeing titular writer face off against Mr. Scratch. Alan Wake may not have been Microsoft’s best-selling Xbox 360 exclusive, but the Remedy-developed survival horror action adventure will be returning. That fact was confirmed at the Spike TV Video Game Awards tonight, with the announcement of Alan Wake: American Nightmare.

Titular hero Alan Wake is again the star of the show, as the writer journeys to another remote town. According to the trailer, Wake is facing off against a new supernatural villain, Mr. Scratch. The two do battle using the powers of light (for Wake) and darkness (for Scratch).

The trailer did not indicate when Alan Wake: American Dream will see release, nor on which platforms. However, the title had previously been pegged as an Xbox Live Arcade release.

Serious Sam 3: BFE Serves Pirates a Heaping Helping of Giant Immortal Scorpion

Posted on Dec 10, 2011 03:57:53 AM

I’ve played quite a bit of the latest entry in Croteam’s twitchtastic first-person shooter series, but I never encountered the super-speedy giant unkillable pink spider creature in the first level. Know why? Because my copy isn’t pirated.

In order to curb rampant pc game piracy, developer Croteam purposefully included a bug (hee) in Serious Sam 3: BFE that trips when the game has been cracked. The bug (I said it again!) spawn a pleasantly-pink, positively unkillable scorpion creature that will hound the player until he or she is dead, dead, dead. To give the pirate a fighting chance, the spawn point is right next to the game’s first projectile weapon. It won’t have any effect, of course, but you’ll briefly feel better.

While not a particularly effective means of combating piracy, the giant immortal pink scorpion is a fun way to catch those masquerading as legitimate customers in places like GameFaqs.

Thanks for the entertainment, Croteam!

Put Some Light Into Your Life With Trine 2’s Launch Trailer

Posted on Dec 9, 2011 12:48:40 AM

You’ll finally be able to get your hands on the medieval, character-switching action of Trine 2 today, if you’re getting it on Steam. The game’s gorgeous art style and beautiful color palette manifests into gorgeous vistas and sharp character animations. As previously mentioned, console versions release a little later. Either way, consider this sequel an anecdote to the grit and brown of the last few months’ AAA games.

Obsidian developing South Park RPG

Posted on Dec 2, 2011 12:41:20 AM

Fallout: New Vegas dev teaming with THQ on Comedy Central-licensed 360, PS3, PC game, due in 2012; Parker, Stone writing, voicing, overseeing.

Obsidian Entertainment has been teasing its next project since March, when CEO Feargus Urquhart called it a no-brainer of a licensed property. Today, GameStop-owned Game Informer magazine put all of the speculation to rest, pegging Obsidian’s “leading animation franchise” as Comedy Central’s South Park.

Announced via this month’s cover story, South Park: The Game is in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, with THQ handling publishing duties. GI characterized the game as a “full-scale” role-playing game, where players assume the role of a new kid in town tasked with making friends and defending South Park from a “wide range of threats.”

The magazine cover features the show’s iconic principle characters–Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny–surrounded by the quartet’s supporting cast. The pond’s reflection alters the scene, showing the boys in fantasy-inspired garb among a handful of different presumed “threats,” including a dragon, Satan, Manbearpig, and more.

In addition to writing the game’s script and performing voice-over work, show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are overseeing development. South Park: The Game is set for release sometime in 2012.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this article, THQ officially announced South Park: The Game, confirming that it will be available during the back half of 2012 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

World Gone Sour

Posted on Dec 1, 2011 12:30:01 AM

World Gone Sour will be based on a lost piece of candy, trying to find its way to candy nirvana, via platforming across movie theaters, concession stands, and probably other candy-themed areas. The game also features this guy, in Sour Patch Kid tribal paint:

The game will be narrated by Creed Bratton, lovable The Office cook, and will sport a Method Man track for the game’s title screen, dubbed “World Gone Sour: The Lost Kids.” The game will feature all the accoutrement modes and features games nowadays should have, such as co-op, global leaderboards and trophies and achievements.

The game is being slated to release during the winter for PC, and sometime in 2012 for Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, with a price tag of $4.99, which might be worth it just to say you own this game. At least it won’t be as weird as using Skittles power.
